How to trade Polymarket Bitcoin Up or Down markets
30 September 2026 · 4 min read
In short
- Bitcoin Up or Down is a recurring Polymarket market: will BTC end a set time window higher or lower than it started?
- Windows run from 5 minutes to a full day, and each one resolves from a public price source named in its rules.
- Shares trade between 0 and 100 cents and pay $1 if you are right, so the price is the market's implied probability.
- In Sparkling, a verified Polymarket builder, you trade the same markets gasless, with a tap or by asking the agent.
Bitcoin Up or Down is a family of short-term prediction markets on Polymarket. Each market asks one question: will Bitcoin's price at the end of a fixed window be higher or lower than at the start? You buy "Up" or "Down" shares, and the market resolves when the window closes. Polymarket launched 15-minute crypto markets in October 2025, and they now run around the clock. You can trade them directly on Polymarket or through apps built on it. Sparkling, the trading app that comes with an agent, is a verified builder in the Polymarket Builders Program: every trade goes to Polymarket's own markets, trading is gasless, and Sparkling covers the gas when you top up your Predictions balance.
How Bitcoin Up or Down works
Every market shows a "Price to Beat": Bitcoin's reference price at the start of the window. You pick a side. Each share trades between 0 and 100 cents and pays $1 if your side wins, or nothing if it loses. If "Up" trades at 60 cents, the market puts the chance of Bitcoin finishing higher at roughly 60%. You do not have to wait for the result: shares can be sold at the current price at any time before the window closes.
How the markets resolve
The resolution source depends on the window, and this is the detail most new traders miss.
| Window | Resolution source | "Up" wins if |
|---|---|---|
| 5 and 15 minutes | Chainlink BTC/USD data stream | The end price is equal to or higher than the start price |
| 1 hour | Binance BTC/USDT 1-hour candle | The close is equal to or higher than the open |
| 1 day | Binance BTC/USDT 1-minute candle at noon ET | Today's noon close is higher than yesterday's (an exact tie resolves 50-50) |
On the shorter windows an unchanged price counts as "Up". Because each window uses a specific source, the price on your own exchange can differ slightly from the one that settles the market. The full rules are on each market's page on Polymarket.

- Open Sparkling in Telegram and create an account. There is no seed phrase to write down at signup, and the account is self-custodial from the first deposit.
- Fund your account by sending any crypto from any supported network, or buy crypto with a bank card in supported regions.
- Top up your Predictions balance inside the app. This is your Polymarket account, and it holds USDC on Polygon, the currency Polymarket settles in. Sparkling covers the gas on the deposit.
- Open prediction markets and pick a Bitcoin Up or Down window.
- Choose Up or Down and enter an amount. Or ask the agent, for example "$20 on Bitcoin up for the next 15 minutes", and it prepares the trade for you.
- Confirm. Trading is gasless. Track the position, sell before the window closes, or hold until it resolves.
Before your first trade
- Read the price as a probability. A price near 50 cents means the market sees the outcome as close to a coin flip.
- Check the resolution source for the window you are trading, especially if you watch the price on another exchange.
- Remember the clock. On 5 and 15 minute windows, the price can move in the final seconds.
- Size for a total loss. A losing position settles at zero.
Frequently asked questions
What does "Price to Beat" mean on Polymarket?
It is Bitcoin's reference price at the start of the window. If the end price is equal to or above it on 5 minute, 15 minute and hourly markets, "Up" wins.
Is trading Up or Down in Sparkling the same as on Polymarket?
Yes. Sparkling is a verified builder in the Polymarket Builders Program, so you trade the same Polymarket markets, prices and resolution rules from your own Polymarket account. The difference: Sparkling covers the gas on Predictions balance top-ups, you can fund with any crypto, the agent can prepare the trade for you, and perps and swaps live in the same app.
Can I trade Up or Down markets for other coins?
Yes. Polymarket runs the same Up or Down markets for Ethereum, Solana, XRP and Dogecoin, and you can trade them in Sparkling from the same Predictions balance. Not every coin has every window, so check each market's rules for its windows and resolution source.
Can I trade Bitcoin Up or Down from the United States?
Not on polymarket.com, which blocks trading in the US and directs US users to polymarket.us. Prediction markets in Sparkling are also not available in certain jurisdictions, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
Does Sparkling's agent place bets for me?
No. The agent prepares the trade, you confirm every order, and your funds never leave your control.
Prediction markets and perpetual futures involve substantial risk, including the loss of all funds. Trades prepared by the agent are not recommendations; every decision is made by the user. Some services are not available in certain jurisdictions, including the United States and the United Kingdom.
